Polaris snowmobile owners are a curious bunch. I don’t think I’ve ever met a group of people more loyal to their brand. It’s actually quite an admirable trait. If all employers were that loyal we wouldn’t have ½ of America’s white collar jobs being shipped overseas. But I digress. Clearly Polaris Snowmobiles is a technology leader and has been for a long time.
A few years ago I took a trip to Alaska to ride a trail at the foot of Mt. McKinley. The snowmobile guide employed nothing but Polaris. Mind you this is a very remote location in Alaska, where Polaris snowmobile parts are not a readily accessible
The reason given as to why nothing but Polaris would be used by my guide was simple. When you are liable for the lives of guests, breakdowns are not tolerated. Only Polaris was up to the task. Think of it this way, if you were taking a 3 day grand tour in some of the most remote country on earth, would you trust just any brand? My guide at one point told me, “I would rather trust a 1975 Vintage Polaris Snowmobile out here than any 2006 Yamaha Snowmobile.”
So the question to all the Polaris snowmobile owners I have is this… just how loyal are you really? Do you collect Polaris snowmobile accessories? How many photo albums do you have titled “Polaris Snowmobile Pictures”? Do you own Polaris Snowmobile gloves or Polaris Snowmobile Jackets or Polaris Snowmobile clothing? Do you save all your used Polaris Snowmobile parts? These questions might seem over the top, but I have actually met a guy who told me he has personally called every classified ad he has found in the paper for a “Polaris Snowmobile for sale” just to try and convince the seller that there is no such thing as a used Polaris snowmobile.
I know the local Polaris Snowmobile dealer in my area, and have sat and chatted over a hamburger many times. He’s a ridding buddy of mine and interestingly enough he’s actually pretty level headed when it comes to brand loyalty. He sells everything from Polaris snowmobile covers to Polaris Snowmobile big wheel kits, yet when I ask him about his favorite snowmobile ever his response was surprising. You would expect a reply of “2005 Polaris IQ FST” or a 2006 Polaris snowmobile of some variety, but his response was simple. His favorite sled ever was his first, a 1975 Arctic Cat 120.
