I always find it funny to head into the hills on most Saturday for a day of snowmobiling, only to find a throng of fellow sledders who haven’t seen the need to wear a helmet.  Let me say first of all that snowmobile helmets are an absolute requirement for my family.

I’ve been riding for many years and both my wife and I have had several experiences that have allowed us to walk away from sever accidents because we were wearing our snowmobile specific helmets.  Don’t be fool by imitators, motocross helmets are not the same.

There are many fantastic snowmobile helmet manufactures.  Take a look at Bell Snowmobile Helmets, HJC Snowmobile Helmets or Lazer Snowmobile Helmets for some of the premier skull protectors.  You might also be interested in products by or in behalf of Arctic Cat Helmets, Polaris, and Ski Doo.  All provide their own branded versions of some pretty nice helmets.

As for myself, I’m currently using a pretty sweet Bieffe helmet that has held up very well for the last few years and was less than $300 to begin with.  Not a bad value.  You might also want to look at modular snowmobile helmets.  There are also plenty of discount snowmobile helmets if you do your research and by a previous year’s model.

No matter what brand or style you prefer, it should be mandatory that your helmet is on for the ride.  After all you want to be able ride another day.
