Before
you can get out into the wilderness with your snowmobile, you will
have to figure out how to get it out there first. This brings you to
your new or used snowmobile trailer purchase decision. New snowmobile
trailers look great and are a sound investment, but an enclosed one
can set you back upwards of $7000. They may be the ideal way to
shelter your brand new sled from snow, rain, sleet and humidity, but
they do not come cheap. And doesn’t it seem like a shame to
spend so much on your trailer when your snowmobile is not new or has
been bought used? Used snowmobile trailers are widely available in
fair to mint condition and at very reasonable prices.
When
purchasing used snowmobile trailers, keep in mind that buying locally
will help you gain access to service support from the dealer. Be sure
that the trailer is in good working condition before you purchase it.
It doesn’t hurt to ask for a trial run. Check for damage on the
loading end and irreparable problems with the suspension and wheels.
The good part is that most used snowmobile trailers available are in
fairly good shape. You can purchase from stores, individual sellers
and online retailers. But wherever you buy, be sure to check
references and try to buy as close to home as possible. Top brands to
look out for are Pace American, Haulmark and Triton.
Prices of
used snowmobile trailers can vary widely depending on the condition,
capacity and age of the vehicle. Be sure to know what you want before
you make your final decision. Get quotes from various sellers,
compare prices and decide whether or not you will need space for more
snowmobiles in the future. If you currently own one snowmobile but
will buy one for your wife and your kid next year, invest in a
trailer that carries at least 3 sleds. Great Haulmark or Featherlite
or Wells Cargo used snowmobile trailers in the fully covered category
can be yours for approximately $5000. Used snowmobile trailers that
are uncovered can cost under $1000, even from the best companies.
