this is my first sled and have nothing to compare it to other than the sleds i have rode with - various ski doo mountain sleds. the ski doo's seem to over heat more often, the control panel is not as sophisticated, access to motor parts is a little more difficult, and the tunnel seems more flimsy. the ski doo is definitely more nimble, but seems to have less power and does not dig out of deep snow like the dragon. i have riden the sled over 600 miles in my first month of ownership up and down mt saint helens and mt hood in semi deep powder, concrete like snow, and on the trails. i increased the limiter strap to the high position, which helped significantly with the handling. moving the skis in closer made it too tippy for my experience level. the sled is currently in the shop for a problem with the stator. the bolts that tie the sway bar to the chasis snapped on one side - what a pain to get at and replace. i burned up a set of hifax in the first 200 miles because i removed the idler wheels, as recommended in the ice scratcher instructions. the second set of hifax looks brand new after 400 miles with the idler wheels in place. i purchased the sled for $8600, which seemed like a bargain in comparison to the other brands. overall i am pleased with the performance and the places it has taken me.

First off I will give my reasons for scoring the sled as I did.

I gave a 9 for power based on the fact that it is a small block 700. Thus, for a "small block" seven hundred, it definitely scores a 9. However, I dont really want a 700 and am planning on big-boring my sled as soon as the parts and kits are available. That being said, I rode my brand new bone-stock Dragon over the weekend and was extremely surprised.

I must admit that I went out expecting to hate it. I was used to my Edge 800, that had clutching, pipe and reeds - and was expecting to be unimpressed with the feel of a stock 700. To the contrary, in deep powder, I found the horsepower and the 155" hooked up well, and I hardly noticed the lack of torque from my old 800.

The thing handles increadibly well. The Walker Evans we too soft for my size, but I am in the process of adjusting them.

Fit and finish and Value are exceptional.

I cannot wait to boost the power plant in this sled, as it is going to eat a lot of other more pricey sleds for breakfast.

It is also the best looking sled on the hil...no questions asked (if that is important to you)
